Famous People from Birmingham

Birmingham is the second most populated city in the UK with just under a million people so it comes as no surprise that there have been many notable famous people born there. Here are a few of our favourites which highlight the range of people that hail from Birmingham.

Neville Chamberlain

The Prime Minister from May 1937 to May 1940, Neville Chamberlain was the leader of Britain through the first eight months of World War II before being succeeded by Winston Churchill. He was born in the district of Edgbaston in 1869.

John Cadbury

The founder of the chocolate producing company Cadburys. In 1824 he opened a small grocery shop but seven years later bought a small factory to focus on manufacturing drinking chocolate and cocoa. It was John Cadburys belief that alcohol was the reason for many people’s poverty and other social problems and that chocolate was an alternative. This belief is still followed at the Cadburys site and the surrounding district of Bournville which hasn’t sold alcohol in pubs, bars or shops for over 100 years.

Jasper Carrot

The comedian, actor and presenter started off singing but found his calling as a comedian when he became known for his on-stage banter instead of his singing. Some of his comedy celebrates the Birmingham culture, accent and football team. More recently Jasper has been seen presenting TV shows including Golden Balls.
